CABINS
The four cabins were built to accommodate 12, are always open (except for maintenance), and are NOT reservable. On weekends and especially during holidays in the winter they are often VERY busy, but the summer sees fewer overnight visitors. They are located at Batchelor Lake, above Edwards Lake, between McNair and Chapman Lakes, and below the summit of Mt. Steele (see our MAPS PAGE).

Consider bringing:
Drinking water can be collected from creeks or lakes near all cabins most of the year but recent summers have been very dry. In the winter those creeks may be running but if not snow can be melted using the wood stove and boiled in your personal cooking stove. All water should be treated by chemicals or boiling.
- dishcloths or disposable/burnable towels to wipe counters and clean dishes
- dish detergent
- an extra bag or two to pack out garbage left behind by people less conscientious than you

Ba(t)chelor Confusion?
There’s been some confusion over the correct spelling of Batchelor Lake and cabin, which have conflicting spellings on some signs. To clarify things, our resident linguist Ryan Matthews contacted the Sechelt Archives and received this response:
Batchelor is the correct spelling, and it was named for someone from Sechelt who fought and died in WW2. The lake is named for: Batchelor, Private James George #M/105970 † Son of George and Alice Batchelor of Sechelt. He enlisted in early 1943 and died Aug. 26, 1944, aged 20 in Italy in the battle of Ortono. He was a private in the Seaforth Highlanders and is buried in Montecchio War Cemetery in Italy. Thanks for your interest.
